Jane Baxter Lynn is principal at JBL Strategies. She has spent three decades in global, national and regional communications, marketing and association management, and has a wide-ranging network to match. Jane has worked in Belgium, France, South Africa and the United States, with responsibility for other regions of the world. Her career has included working for Fortune 500 companies, industry and non-profit associations, quasi-government organizations, and as a strategic business advisor. Her industries have included: environmental conservation, Travel & Tourism, wine, and construction/engineering/real estate.
Jane has extensive experience in brand development and positioning and was responsible for the first trademark to be awarded to a U.S. wine region. She works with clients to develop clear messaging and positioning as integral parts of the company or organization’s overall strategic direction. When necessary, she facilitates the strategic planning process and helps consolidate future strategies and goals.
Her success has been in creating and implementing development strategies to achieve a competitive advantage for her employers’ and clients’ businesses. She has gained a solid reputation for providing clients with effective strategic counsel; developing results-oriented solutions, and bringing together diverse groups to achieve common goals. Non-profit management, sustainability and mentoring are her passions.
Her interest in A/E/C has been evident throughout her career. She grew up with a father who was a civil and structural engineer; worked for a major construction and engineering group in South Africa; worked on building sites in Europe; developed green management processes (technology and otherwise) for Holiday Inn Worldwide (Europe, Middle East & Africa); worked on tourism economic development as Director of Communications for the World Travel & Tourism Council; helped develop and launch the Green Globe certification system for the global travel & tourism industry; lead communications for a major real estate brand franchisor, and built a 5-star green rated home in downtown Austin, Texas in 2007. Most recently, Jane served as the U.S. Green Building Council Central Texas-Balcones Chapter’s first Executive Director for three years and is now Board Vice Chair.
She is also on the Advisory Council for the Wine & Food Foundation of Texas and heads the Women Communicators of Austin’s mentor program. She and a colleague recently launched a Strategic Leadership Essentials© program for nonprofits and small business leaders designed to work with participants on their personal leadership development within the context of their organization’s strategic direction, while emphasizing the importance of clear and consistent communications strategies for engaging and inspiring their stakeholders.
